Cross your fingers!!!

Just when things don’t seem to be going all that well sometimes things seem to fall into place the way that you want them to. First off we finally got in to see the house that was for rent on the other side of the block from us in Hickman and it was just awful. I was afraid I was going to get AIDS from a random discarded hypodermic needle or something. The place was just disgusting. If we were to move in there it would take weeks of cleaning before it was livable, there was mouse crap on the shelves and disgusting grime everywhere. They must have used some fancy photoshop work on the pictures that they had posted for it online because it wasn’t even close. We didn’t completely rule it out though until we started finding fleas on us though just from walking through the place. NO WAY.

After that we were starting to accept that we might have to get an apartment as a last resort since nothing was really coming up that was worth a damn that didn’t cost a fortune. That was a pretty big deal since Jessica said that she would leave me before she moved into an apartment (she wouldn’t really leave me, she just hates apartments that bad). We started looking again online and I checked Craigslist again for the thousandth time and came across an ad for a place in Air Park in West Lincoln. Air Park is the area that used to be the family housing for the old Lincoln Air Force Base, and they have built some new developments there as well. Anyway it is great for my commute, but unfortunately terrible for Jessica’s. I was almost going to say no it’s no good because of that but we called and set up a time to take a look anyway. It’s a split level house, probably only 6 or 7 years old. Holy crap the place was nice, way nicer than the rent amount they are asking for. He said he bought it as a foreclosure about 3 years ago and fixed it up which is probably why he can afford to rent it so cheap since the mortgage payments aren’t as high as most places in town. They are getting married and moving to Omaha and either wants to sell the place or get it rented ASAP, whichever comes first. They were super cool people and of course we were interested in renting it so I hope it all works out, he just has to check our our credit and references and stuff and will let us know tomorrow. It looks like an awesome place to live and the utility bills are way lower than they are in the old house where we are living now so if we did get it we would be saving a ton of money there as well. Cross your fingers, something might actually work out in an awesome way at the right time for once! I’m gonna give it a Caddyshack nanananananananana if that helps.

Back at work, back in school. I can really see the allure of not working for a living after being off for 9 days and not really doing anything the whole time. I don’t see the allure of being a dirty homeless person though so the key here is to become independently wealthy somehow, or have Jessica become independently wealthy and I can be a kept man… why didn’t I ever think of this before?

Moving is just awful.

Looking for a new house to rent sucks ass. I was really hoping that we could just stay here until we were good and ready to move, most landlords would love us, we pay early every month, don’t cause any trouble or want anything (other than the major stuff like having no toilet for a week). Apparently our landlords are getting a divorce so that might be contributing to the lack of response to anything from them. We have only dealt with the husband for everything but she technically owns the house so now he is saying that he wants nothing to do with it anymore and that she is our main contact now. That’s all well and good except for the fact that we have never dealt with her in any way whatsoever and don’t really have any contact information for her. Sucks. It would be really great if we could stay for one more month until Jessica’s friend’s rental becomes available but of course that can’t work out, why would it? We have been looking around everywhere and nothing is coming up. Well not nothing I guess, there is a house for rent on the same block as us but the location really sucks and it is kind of a dump. Well about the same amount of dumpiness that we are in now I guess, if our house is the second oldest in town it might be the oldest, or third oldest. It’s right up there. In many ways it is better though, fenced backyard, garage, the pictures of the interior look better than what we have now, but looking at it from the outside… man it’s a hole. At this point I’ve about had it with looking and I think we should just take it and be done with it. I would definitely love something better but I guess we have to accept the fact that we are poor white trash and can’t afford anything nice, or that anything nice that we can afford isn’t available right now. The property manager is a pain in the ass about it though, they won’t come show the inside of it without a rental application and $20 fee, and the application also says that the full deposit is required with the application. What the hell is that about? I’m not giving the deposit just to take a look at it. It’s bad enough that I need to pay $20 for a rental application. Stupid ass property managers, it’s so much better to deal with the actual owner when it comes to rentals.

Not related, but I’ve been playing around with my amateur photography skills (the key word here being amateur), so here are some pics of the day.

Does it feel like fall to you?

It’s still hot but to me it feels like the beginning of Fall for some reason. I guess it’s technically past the hottest part of the year if you look at what the average high temperatures are but to me it just seemed like there was never ending heat and then all of a sudden football season is a couple weeks away and there is a few really cool, nice feeling days and then I start thinking about how it’s going to get cold soon. It always seems to feel like that to me, 5 and a half months of unbearable heat, 2 weeks of beautiful weather, and then bitterly cold for 5 and a half months followed by another nice 2 weeks and it all repeats itself. Maybe I need to move somewhere with a different climate since Nebraska gets all off Canada’s cold in the Winter and all of Mexico’s heat in the Summer. At least there’s going to be football again soon.

Jessica and I went out and did some geocaching for the first time in a long time the other day when it was nice. For those who have no idea what that is it’s where people hide “treasures” (carnival junk, trinkets), usually in interesting places and then give the GPS coordinates to them on the geocaching.com website and you go try to find them with a handheld GPS receiver and trade some of your junk for some of the junk that others have left. Jessica still thinks it’s pretty weird but it gets you out into neat places near where you live that you might not even know about and is actually a lot of fun and is pretty cheap to do once you have the GPS unit. There are currently 1,162,491 active caches right now worldwide. They are hidden practically everywhere and you probably go by them all the time without even knowing it. There are a lot more in the more populated areas since you need people who are into finding them to place ones of their own, but there are even ones in rural areas. We went out into a wildlife management area that has a couple in it, it was a little more of a bushwhack than I was expecting but we made it. Jessica found it before I did, it was a military ammo can. We left a patch and took a pin from South Africa and signed the logbook. Give it a try, it’s sounds really stupid but it’s a pretty good time.

Jessica and I had a date night tonight, went out to dinner and saw Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. We both loved the movie, very very… interesting and different. Just the right amount of humor, fighting, special effects, general weirdness, etc. I really recommend going to see it, probably not if you are older though, it’s kind of like a comic book come alive with a lot of video game references and other references that someone who was older wouldn’t get.

Go see it while you can, I heard it isn’t doing the greatest at the box office, I have no idea why, probably because it seems like something that is hard to explain just by looking at the title and you don’t know what to make of it. I would actually go buy it on DVD and I don’t buy anything on DVD anymore. Jessica thinks it might become more of a cult hit, like… The Big Lebowski. She never said The Big Lebowski, that’s just the only movie that I can think of right now that was a cult hit.

HAS THE WHOLE WORLD GONE CRAZY? AM I THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE RULES? MARK IT ZERO!
