Ed and Shellie had their baby Sunday night. It’s a boy! Avery Duncan Sabata, 8 lbs 6 ozs. I told Ed when he called me that I’m sure he’s going to be a beautiful short, big butted baby with a perfect lion mane haircut. Just like his dad! Seriously though, awesome news guys. Mother and baby are healthy and doing well. What more could you ask for?

I ended up skipping the half marathon on Sunday. I don’t really feel bad about it. I would have gotten next to no sleep the night before and my body isn’t cooperating with the training anyway. Just goes to show that you can’t half ass the training part and expect things to go well. Maybe when I was 19 but not anymore. Anyway I’m going to do the Duncan Triathlon next weekend and then reevaluate my whole training regimen and start from scratch. Sounds like I’ll have a new partner for the race since Ed is off all week with his new kid. At least I don’t have to find his replacement.

Speaking of Ed being off all week I get to work with some new people this week. Well not new, new to working overnights with me. Dirty D tonight, Robbie T tomorrow and the next day, and Powder on Thursday. Technically it’s my week to work the ramp but I’m riding the phones tonight for Dirty D. I haven’t seen him in a while so he’s probably out cold right now since he’s not used to working the overnights. I’m glad I got to work the desk tonight because I absolutely destroyed my schoolwork for the week. I haven’t been able to concentrate on this crap at all lately but I was able to hit it hard for about 3 and a half hours until I didn’t have anything more that I could do. Well I guess I could read the chapters for next week… Maybe I’ll do that since I’m motivated tonight. Nah.

Winnah winnah chicken dinnah!

I met Joe in the bustling metropolis of Manley Nebraska this morning to run the 1st Manley 5k, and I won a medal! I took 3rd place in the men’s division and 5th overall! Yay! I’m not going to discuss how many people ran the race total, that isn’t important, I’m sure it has nothing to do with why I won a medal. Yep nothing at all to do with it… It was my blazing speed. Yea that’s it. Blazing speed. Quit trying to burst my bubble. I’m happy I got a medal.

Anyway I was really wanting to do a personal best time and I was on pace to do that until the last looong hill which sapped all my energy. I ended up running a 9:10 per mile pace which is not where I want to be. I think after all these races are over for the year I’m going to start my training over and work on my speed and add all the circuit training and cross training as well that I did earlier this year. You run how you train and I’m training at a pretty slow pace and I would like to be more competitive. Plus the faster you run the faster you get it over with. I really want to do the full marathon next year.

Here is a link to all the data that came out of the watch.

The second date last night went very well and we are getting together again tomorrow so that puts me in a very good mood. Who knew that the whole dating process wasn’t supposed to be a soul crushing experience? Certainly not me! That’s all I’ve got on that. As usual I’m not all that chatty about that aspect of my personal life. If anything comes of it you’ll be the first to know… I swear…

Ouch.

I ran my 9 miles tonight and I really struggled on it. I don’t know what it was but it was painful. I think part of it was that I was so cold. What the hell is with this state? I looked after I got back and it was like 10 degrees above freezing. I swear not all that long ago I was overheating even in the middle of the night. I guess that means I’ll have to cut short the overnight running, or at least start using the treadmill instead. Maybe I’ll join the Y over the winter since they have an indoor track… at least I think they do I’m not sure.

I shaved the beard. Yea yea yea I know, but I had a date so piss off. I can grow another beard in a couple weeks but I haven’t been on all that many dates lately so I thought it might be better if I didn’t look like a dirty homeless axe murderer. I decided to try something different instead of the cliche’ things to do and took her geocaching in Pioneer’s Park. It would either be a hit or a huge bust and it turned out pretty good (I think, I’ve been wrong before). It could have gone a little better when it came to actually finding the hidden items (we only found 2 out of I don’t know how many) but all in all it was pretty fun. The dog also had a blast since I brought him along and going to the park is just about his favorite thing in the world. I didn’t douche out as bad as I normally do on first dates (I get really really nervous) and said or did very little that I want to smack myself in the forehead afterward for. We’re going out again next weekend and I’m optimistic. Yay for optimism!
